Q. Is it okay to marry someone who my parents don\'t approve of?
A. Parents approval is very important. However you may do your best to get their approval. With their approval the marriage will be much more successful. May Allah help you
Q. What is the appropriate amount to ask for dowry?
A. There is no limit or amount that is mentioned, as long as the woman accepts his offerings. Rasool Allah (SAW) says: the lower the dowry, the bigger (BARAKA).n
Q. If my husbands wants to live with his family do I have to agree?
A. Rasool Allah (SAW) says: If the woman prays her five prayers, and fasts her month (Ramadan) and obeys her husband, she will enter paradise from any door she pleases.n
Q. Is the wife obligated to work after marriage to help support the family?
A. You are not obligated to work after marriage. However if it is something you and your husband have decided to do, there is no problem with that.
Q. Is Marriage in Islam obligatory?
A. The general opinion is that if a person, male or female fears that if he/she does not marry they will commit If a person has strong sexual urges then it becomes "wajib" for that person to marry. Marriage should not be put off or delayed especially if one has the means to do so.
Q. How should a Muslim select a partner?
A. A person should choose their partner based on their piety or taqwa. It was recommended by the prophet (pbuh) that the couple get to know each other before getting married. The couple should look at each other with a critical eye and not a lustful one.
Q. How do I talk to a potential mate? I want to get to know the person more, but don\'t want to talk over the phone or meet in person?
A. You can have someone you know and trust meet the other party and inform you about their behavior and deen, and try to gather information about them.
Q. What does Islam say about arranged marriages?
A. Rasool Allah (SAW) was married to Sayida Khadijah, Sawda and Aisha by the way of arranged marriage, and he is our role model.
